Affiliate Promo Codes

Stripe promotion codes per affiliate, coupon attribution fallback, and plan lapse behavior.

On Growth plans and above, each active affiliate can receive a unique Stripe promotion code tied to your merchant coupon. This gives affiliates a way to track sales even if a customer clears cookies before checkout.

Coupons vs. Promo Codes

Stripe uses two distinct terms that are important to understand:

  • Coupon: The underlying discount rule (e.g., "20% off for 3 months").
  • Promo Code: The actual text customers type at checkout (e.g., ALICE20).

Partnersify uses one master Coupon to generate many unique Promo Codes (one for each affiliate). Every affiliate offers the exact same discount, but with their own personalized text.

How to set it up

  1. Create a master Coupon in Stripe: Set your discount amount, duration, and eligible products directly in your Stripe Dashboard. Refer to Stripe's coupon guide for step-by-step instructions.
  2. Select it in Partnersify: Navigate to your Portal Settings and toggle on the option to give affiliates a coupon. Pick your master coupon from the dropdown list.
  3. Affiliates choose their codes: During onboarding, affiliates will pick their own custom text (like THEIRNAME20). Partnersify automatically tells Stripe to generate a unique Promo Code tied to your master Coupon.

Promo code as attribution fallback

At checkout, Partnersify checks promotion codes before cookie metadata. If multiple affiliate codes appear on one order, the oldest affiliate relationship wins.

Plan lapse

If your plan drops below Growth:

  • Existing Stripe promotion codes remain in Stripe.
  • New sales stop attributing through those codes.
  • Discounts may still apply in Stripe, but no commissions accrue.

Re-upgrade to resume attribution without having to recreate any codes.
